FUMBLE!

That’s the sound of me dropping the ball.

I realized I never did a write up for the Cobequid Dog Show!

Here it is – a little (lot) overdue.

The Cobequid Dog Show was held at the Agridome on the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Bible Hill.

First, a picture of our table set up:

Snazzy!

This was our second actual dog show (we’ve been to a few expos) and it was nice to have a better idea of what was going on. Not to mention the chance to see so many dogs!

It was great to see familiar faces and meet new people. A lot goes in to preparing a dog, handling them, helping them get ‘show ready’. In some cases that means keeping the dogs away from others before they go on. Some people practice showing in an open area, others hide from their dogs so they won’t get excited when they see their owner.

One of the things we really enjoy is the double take people do when they see the Pawtrekker scooter. Usually that’s followed by either “Wow, that’s neat” or “oh that’s not a bike.” After that we spend as much time as the person wants explaining the features and answering their questions.

Another thing that’s really pleased us is the interest in our custom harnesses. The Hunter Orange was really popular since we were heading in to hunting season as well as the Nova Scotian tartan.

The HyperFlite discs were also a hit. A few people recognized the brand and it was nice to get feedback on them.

The Agridome was a wonderful place for them to hold the show – previous years, we were told, was held in the riding ring a building over.

Add this one to the list of shows we want to go back to year after year, and we hope to see you there!

Halifax Kennel Club Dog Show

Well it’s been a little over a week since the Halifax Kennel Club Dog Show and I’m finally getting a chance to write about it.

First we want to say thank you to Mark Grant for giving us a chance to do a small demonstration of the scooter just before the Alaskan Malamute Club of Canada specialty show. We also want to thank Kathleen Corkum from Edgemere Kennels for volunteering Miss Kitty to us. Despite being groomed for show Kathleen let us harness her up and pull the scooter around. We can’t adequately put in to words how much this meant to us.

We set up shop in vendor alley on Friday displaying our Hyperflight discs, walking belts, harnesses, Musher’s Secret, Pawtrek scooter and for the first time our kick sled. We had more than that but you can see all that in the catalogue. ;)

Naturally the show, vendor wise, was a little slow starting – I guess not many people felt like shopping at 8:30 am and the people showing their dogs were getting set up and their dogs groomed. This gave us a chance to get to know our neighbours. Now I think the worst thing I could do is leave someone out but I want to mention one person in particular and I’ll add links to as many as I can soon.

Instead we just want to mention Dorris Heffron, author of City Wolves. She was there selling signed copies of her book with all the proceeds going to the Halifax Kennel Club who in turn donated it to the Halifax Police Force’s K-9 Unit to help fund vests for their dogs.

We had a really great time at the show, got to meet all kinds of people and got to get our name out there a little more. We’re building this business slow on purpose because we want to be confident in our product and offer things that we use.

This was our first time at an official dog show. We’d been to expos before where people brought their dogs and visited the vendors, but this was the first time we’d been to a show where dogs were being judged. We learned quite a bit about the process – talk about a whole different world!

It was also great to meet Dennis and his Carol the owners of the dog that sired our Claire.

We really had a fantastic time, got to see a lot of dogs, talk about our products with pride, and meet a pile of genuinely nice people.

Looking forward to going to more!

Hyperflite Discs!

Here they are – competition standard (and other discs) for all you fetching fanatics. :)

Competition standard:

And glow in the dark!

The glowing in the dark picture is a little exaggerated because I had to do a long exposure picture to get it to show, but it’s definitely noticeable – considering they haven’t been exposed to light for very long.

And last but not least, puppy sized (or smaller dogs :) )

Looking forward to seeing these in action!

Prices will be up shortly after we see what these hurricane irene leftovers leave us to clean up.

Silver Pawtrekker Scooter – Assembly pictures

Well we finally got a chance to assemble the silver Pawtrekker scooter. I have to say the pictures don’t do it justice – it’s a very snazzy rig and I’m really liking the silver colour!

Here’s a view of the opened box – I’ve removed the cable ties that keep it from rattling around in shipping and I put the assembly instructions on the top:

Next three pictures are of the various components. Body, handlebars, fenders, wheels, quick release attachments, etc:

Assembly is pretty straight forward. If you’re familiar with bicycles at all it shouldn’t be too big a deal to put together and even without previous knowledge the instructions are well done.

Finished product (thumbnail links to a bigger picture than the previous thumbnails):

Stylin’!

Last note: there are retaining clips that goes on both sides of the back wheel to help hold it in place, very important to have these on. Here’s a close up view to show how it clips in:

Anyway! There you have it, someone’s gunna look good riding around on this. ;)

Furry Friends Inn Dog Fair

Just dropping a quick(ish) note about the Dog Fair held on the weekend at Furry Friends Inn in Spa Springs.

We had a great time!

The drive there was a little adventurous, on the highway climbing upwards in our metal box we encountered a really nasty thunder and lightning storm. At one point the rain and fog was so bad we had to slow to 50 or 60km/h and couldn’t see much past 20 or 30 feet.

Anyway! Nothing was going to stop us from getting there ;)

The event was held inside their riding ring which, to me, is a great place to hold it. It allows the dogs to run around a little and have fun – and they did!

We got to meet a lot of new people and see what they were about and what they do and a couple organizations we are already familiar with (GPAC, Litters n Critters).

I hope others enjoyed it – Furry Friends Inn looks to have a great facility there and everyone we talked to were very down to earth and interested in the dogs themselves. And they have an incredible view of the area!

Anyway, thanks again Furry Friends Inn for having us and we hope to be there next year.

-John and Steph
